Dammam University Chooses Naseej for its Collection Development

Press Release: Naseej [March 10, 2013]

Dammam, KSA, March 10, 2013. To achieve its vision, mission, and objectives of fulfilling the needs of its patrons – students, faculty, researchers and staff – a library must work intensively to develop its core and thematic collections. Hence, the Deanship of Library Affairs at Dammam University has chosen Naseej – the Arab world's leader in Knowledge Consultancy Services – to develop its library core collection.

The Naseej team of consultants has worked on an integrated framework – OCLC Conspectus – to analyze the library collection, and rate against recognized international standards its educational and research plans, its academic strategic perspective, the qualitative and quantitative trends in library collections, and the nature of patrons' informational needs, in order to determine its weaknesses and strengths. Also, the team has enhanced the library's global accessibility by adding its foreign collection to the OCLC World Catalog.

The Naseej team has prepared a standard list of Arabic and English core collection and information resources titles to be acquired to enhance the university's educational and research programs and the library's mission, and to ensure economic spending and effective distribution among the university's various colleges and specializations.

Naseej VP Eng. Abdullah AL Turaifi commented: "Improving the ability of libraries and research centers to acquire and share their intrinsic knowledge has been a core focus of Naseej ever since its inception over 23 years ago. Our knowledge consultancy services ensure sustainable growth of collections via selection, inventory and weeding. Our services help libraries keep up with global trends in collection acquisition, including feasible cooperation with local, regional and world counterparts."
