20 August 2013: Civica, a leader in specialist systems and business process services that help organisations to transform the way they work, has announced the release of Spydus 9, the latest version of its market-leading library software. A web-based system that can be provided as a cloud service for individual libraries and consortium groups, Spydus 9 has been developed to help improve services and efficiency through modern self-service and library management capabilities including comprehensive smartphone and tablet functionality.
Civica has been delivering library solutions for more than 25 years and Spydus is already used by more than 1,800 libraries internationally. The latest software integrates traditional physical library content with e-content through a personalised and powerful ‘discovery' OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue), providing users with a single unified search and browse ability across traditional resources, digital media, archives and cultural collections which can be easily filtered and refined.
Patrons benefit from a personalised experience including seamless browsing, stock availability and reservation, sharing of interests and reviews, and checkout, through traditional web access as well as mobile devices such as iPhones and iPads. Library managers and employees also benefit from the feature-rich smartphone application, together with web-based circulation and advanced resource sharing.
Marc Nolan, managing director (Australia and New Zealand) for Civica Library & Learning, said, "Spydus 8 established one of the most powerful library consortia systems available and with the release of Spydus 9 we are now delivering further benefits to libraries. We have listened closely to library managers, librarians and patrons and how they want to access resources. Spydus 9 is the result, delivering a personalised, powerful and mobile-capable solution that increases public access and connection to a broad range of community library and heritage resources in a unified search and ensuring that the experience is more engaging and relevant to all members of the community."
