Axiell steps up business in the school sector

Press Release: Axiell [May 3, 2013]

Axiell is intensifying its strategic focus on schools with the appointment of Eva Houltzén Hammarberg. Eva has broad, long-standing experience of the school, IT and publishing sectors, and has most recently held a CEO position in advertising. She will assume her new position at Axiell on 1 July 2013.

"- Besides her prior executive positions in IT and publishing, Eva has worked as an upper secondary school teacher. This gives her deep understanding of our end users, which is extremely important in enabling us to meet customer needs in the school sector. Eva will be an important resource in our drive to become the leading supplier of digital learning tools in Sweden and abroad," comments Joel Sommerfeldt.

Axiell develops technically advanced and innovative solutions for libraries, schools, archives and museums in close collaboration with its customers. More than 3,000 schools use Axiell's systems. Eva's appointment is part of Axiell's strategy to become an even stronger collaborative partner to schools. She has previously worked as an upper secondary school teacher, a publishing director, head of product development at Liber, and as a project manager in the IT sector. Her background with Liber gives her invaluable insight into the journey and challenges that publishing firms face when making the transition from printed to digital media. And of course, this has parallels with the school sector.

"We will build a strong platform for educational resources into Axiell's digital tool, Axiell SkolArena, which functions in more markets. Here it is essential for Axiell to be sensitive and continue working closely with teachers. I hope to contribute valuable experience and develop Axiell's collaboration with schools, municipalities and content suppliers," says Eva.

Teaching and education has been a continuous theme throughout Eva's career.

"Municipalities and schools are facing the big challenge of finding meaningful uses for digital resources in schools. Axiell aims to facilitate this process. I see Axiell's experience of school libraries as an enormous advantage, since it allows us to integrate libraries' printed and digital material with other educational material and tools. One vision is to open the way for schools to use material from, for example, museums. I look forward to contributing to Axiell's expansion in the school sector," she concludes.
