Dan Tonkery to Join EBSCO's Management Team

Press Release: EBSCO Information Services [February 2, 2001]

Birmingham, AL -- Feb. 23, 2001. Information industry veteran Dan Tonkery will join EBSCO Information Services as director of development on March 1. With more than 30 years of experience, Tonkery is well known as a leader in the library community. He comes to EBSCO from Faxon, RoweCom's academic and medical division, where he has served as president for the past two years.

Tonkery will work with EBSCO's many divisions to help develop and refine marketing strategies. He will also be closely involved in future development of EBSCO's electronic journals service, particularly in relation to consortia and e-journal licensing issues. In addition, he will work to develop new services that allow EBSCO and its customers to take advantage of new and emerging technologies.

"EBSCO is committed to providing viable and cutting-edge information management solutions, even as the environment in which we work is perpetually changing," said EBSCO Subscription Services Vice President F. Dixon Brooke Jr. "Dan's considerable experience and expertise in the industry, and specifically in the development of electronic services, will be invaluable as we strive to meet the needs of the information community."

In addition to serving as president of Faxon, Tonkery held a number of senior positions with Dawson Information Services Group, which was acquired by RoweCom in October 1999. His responsibilities there included development of Information Quest, an e-journal access and delivery system now managed by Faxon.

Tonkery has also served as CEO of Readmore subscription agency and was president and founder of Horizon Information Services, an electronic publishing company acquired by EBSCO. He has significant experience within the library environment, as well, having been associate university librarian for the University of California at Los Angeles and holding various management positions within the National Library of Medicine. He has been a long time member of NASIG and has served in various capacities including treasurer, president and now past president.

"I am delighted to be joining an organization that has both the resources and commitment to develop new e-services for libraries," said Tonkery. "EBSCO's management has made a long term commitment to libraries and I am glad to have the opportunity to continue serving libraries and working to ensure that librarians have a central role in the expanding information on their campuses."

EBSCO Subscription Services and EBSCO Publishing form the EBSCO Information Services group. EBSCO provides integrated information resources and management solutions worldwide through print and electronic journal subscription services, reference database development and production, online multi-database access and e-commerce book procurement. EBSCO upholds relationships with 49,000 publishers and maintains a database of more than 260,000 title listings. For more information, visit the EBSCO Web site at www.ebsco.com.
