Santa Fe, NM (PRWEB) December 18, 2012. Deep Web Technologies, a leader in federated search, celebrates the tenth anniversary of powering the premier, publicly accessible, government portal Science.gov. Launched in December 2002, Science.gov has grown from a portal providing access to 18 sources to becoming the top federal government science search engine, providing access to 59 sources and over 200 million pages of research. "Science.gov has always been a showcase for our company" says Abe Lederman, President and CTO of Deep Web Technologies. "Science.gov has challenged, funded and been the first adopter of major innovations in Federated Search that have set the gold standard for our industry. These innovations have included on-the-fly relevance ranking, incremental display of results and highly scalable federated search of federated search."
To prepare for the tenth anniversary festivities, Deep Web Technologies, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI), gave Science.gov a virtual facelift. New features such as result topic visualizations and multimedia searching enhance the search experience. In addition, a Spanish language version, Ciencia.Science.gov, was created to broaden the reach into the Latino scientific communities. Ciencia.Science.gov utilizes a patent-pending technology that translates a user's query from Spanish to English and results from English to Spanish. Dr. Walt Warnick, Director of OSTI, in a 2009 interview said, "OSTI has proved that federated search can make enormous quantities of authoritative, non-Googleable science searchable, which is a feat that cannot be accomplished in any practical way except via federated search. "
"My relationship with OSTI through Science.gov has brought many rich experiences," reminisced Lederman. "The highlight was the Science.gov 2.0 launch in 2004 presided over by then Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham at a ceremony held at DOE headquarters."
About Science.gov
Science.gov debuted in 2002 to help the "science-attentive citizen" more easily find the results of government funded research. For more information about Science.gov and the 10th Anniversary celebrations including Fact Cards and Press Kit, please visit http://www.science.gov/communications/index.html. Dr. Warnick recently wrote a blog article on the significance of Science.gov and can be read here.

These agencies represent 97 percent of the federal R&D budget.
The Science.gov website is hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI), within the Office of Science.
Science.gov is supported by CENDI (http://www.cendi.gov), an interagency working group of senior scientific and technical information managers.
About Deep Web Technologies
Deep Web Technologies (http://www.deepwebtech.com) creates custom, sophisticated federated search solutions, based on its Explorit Research Accelerator, for clients who demand precise, accurate results. It is the tool of choice when needing to access the Deep Web, a collection of Internet information sources that are generally not accessible to web spiders or crawlers and cannot, therefore, be indexed for search by popular search engines such as Google, Yahoo! or Bing. Explorit performs real-time searches of multiple information sources, in parallel, merging the results into a single page. Serving Fortune 500 companies, the Science.gov Alliance, the U.S. Department of Energy, the Defense Technical Information Center, Stanford University, the Texas Medical Center, WorldwideScience.org and a wide variety of other customers, partners and research and library alliances, Deep Web Technologies has built a reputation as the "researcher's choice" for its advanced, agile information discovery tools.
