November 28, 2012, Boston, Oxford – Credo Reference today announced the availability of a case study conducted with the American University of Paris, which is using its Literati solution to promote information literacy and research effectiveness. The study is freely available to anyone who registers at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/AUP_Study.
While Literati includes powerful technology and authoritative reference content, the most unique aspect of the solution is its customizable services provided by the Literati Customer Solutions Team. As part of the project, AUP collaborated with this team of on-staff librarians and educators to develop multimedia materials including videos, tutorials and quizzes for first year seminars and one-on-one instruction. These materials are currently being used by AUP students on the Literati platform as well as the library's homepage and course management system.
As a result of the collaboration, AUP reduced costs and saved time associated with purchasing and learning the latest video production and editing software. They also met the needs of their sophisticated end-users who expect multimedia materials to mirror technology found on the open web.
After viewing a Literati instructional video on the deep web, one student in the case study stated, "(The tutorial) got me to think about writing my next research paper with the library databases more… Honestly, in my next research paper, I will use the library databases!"
Over 72% of the AUP students surveyed found the multimedia materials developed by the Literati team and AUP librarians to be "very helpful." Furthermore, 75% of AUP students said they would be likely to use Literati as a research tool again in the future.
"It is very exciting to see the diverse ways in which libraries are leveraging our Literati team to create materials and provide services that meet their specific needs," said Carol Helton, Credo's Executive Vice President, Customer Solutions & Marketing. "The Literati solution goes well beyond just providing content: It is all about helping libraries meet their strategic goals through customizable services and technologies."
About Literati

Technology
The Literati solution includes embedded tools that guide the user; integration of the library's existing resources and discovery services (extending their value); tools that measure what works and what doesn't; and a growing collection of nearly 10,000 Topic Pages. Topic Pages alone are valued at over $3.5 million in equivalent resource value. Additional technologies such as the Mind Map provide a powerful way to visualize and understand the research process.
Content
Literati can be packaged with a growing reference database of more than 3.6 million XML-enriched entries with over 500,000 images, videos and audio clips that enhance learning.
Services
What makes Literati truly unique are the customized and complementary services provided by on-staff instructional librarians and educators. These services integrate faculty and student outreach, multimedia instruction and assessment tools. Instructional materials such as tutorials, modules and guides are developed based on the library's strategic goals and are not limited to Credo products.
