Los Angeles, CA--April 5, 2012--Cuadra Associates, Inc. (Cuadra), a leading provider of knowledge management solutions, announced the release of version 2.0 of STAR Knowledge Center for Archives (SKCA), its acclaimed archival collections management solution. The centerpiece of this new release is the new Research Services module.
SKCA users requested the new module because they wanted to integrate the tracking of requests with the cataloging data that they already have in SKCA. They needed to be able to track the work done by archives staff on behalf of researchers, including actions such as pulling materials from storage, photocopying, digitizing, and research.
According to Dr. David Abels, Cuadra's Vice-President for Customer and Technical Support, "Before implementing SKCA, our customers used tracking methods that didn't interact with their catalogs. That forced them to do duplicate work: logging the request in a spreadsheet and then filling in a Word template to create pull slips. In the best of cases they could generate statistics from the spreadsheet, but more often they couldn't do so."
With SKCA 2.0's integrated approach, a staff member can easily log a request, generate a pull report, identify materials that need digitization, and use batch operations to mark the catalog records of materials that have been pulled, returned and reshelved. In addition, archivists can use the statistical and management reports to help them substantiate the work they have already done and monitor the additional needed work
Customers that have seen the new module have been very pleased. Dr. Abels said, "We've gotten great feedback. One customer told us that the module will not only meet their current needs but will also give them a jumpstart on their long-term goals, enabling them to move in new directions."
