VTLS, in partnership with mk Sorting Systems, is in the final stages of implementing the Fastrac RFID system at Vaughan Public Libraries, in Ontario, Ca. The project began last August with a 3-phase process: Phase 1 included delivery/install of tagging and staff stations and training by VTLS staff. Phase 2 took place in November and included delivery and installation of gates and self check units and training by VTLS staff. Phase 3 will begin in early 2012 and will involve software and hardware installation and culminate in completion of the project.

The Fastrac installation replaces the previous Checkpoint RFID system. Components of the installation include 3 self-checkout machines, staff stations, RFID gates, self-check table and tower, tagging stations, tagging wands and tags. Vaughan started re-tagging over 500,000 items last August and looks to complete the tagging process in early 2012. Vaughan Public Libraries has been a Virtua customer since 2004.
