Copyright Clearance Center hires Michael Healy

Press Release: Copyright Clearance Center [September 27, 2011]

Danvers, Mass. – Copyright Clearance Center, Inc. (CCC), a not-for-profit organization and leading provider of licensing solutions, announces that former Executive Director (Designate) at The Book Rights Registry, Michael Healy, will join as Executive Director, Author and Publisher Relations. The Book Rights Registry is the non-profit organization to be set up as a result of the Google Book Settlement, representing the interests of the rightsholder community.

At CCC, Healy will be responsible for the development of new products in service of the author and publisher communities. As CCC expands its business models to address a broader set of licensing issues facing its customers, Healy will be instrumental in helping to devise and implement future strategies to address challenging market gaps including ebook rights, Orphan Works and digital rights for other pre-existing works.

Prior to The Book Rights Registry, Healy was Executive Director at The Book Industry Study Group (BISG), which was established more than 30 years ago to improve the efficiency of the U.S. book industry through the development of standards and best practice, research, education and information. Before the BISG, Healy was Editorial Director at Nielsen BookData and Chadwyck-Healey.

"I am very pleased that Michael is bringing his unique skills and industry knowledge to CCC. CCC is a rights registry and as we expand our services, Michael will provide leadership and an important industry perspective," said Tracey Armstrong, CEO, Copyright Clearance Center. "I look forward to working with Michael as CCC continues to work closely with authors, publishers and their representatives to provide efficient licensing solutions that meet the needs of corporate, government and academic users, and result in royalties for rightsholders for the use of both in-print and out-of-print works."

"CCC runs a complex and sophisticated licensing business, managing over 450 million rights and serving a global market with real commitment and expertise," said Healy. "Having known CCC's business and many of the team there for several years, I am very confident that it has the knowledge, resources and experience to be part of a global solution to many of today's and tomorrow's copyright challenges. I am excited to be joining the CCC team at this important time and to helping create and put in place solutions that meet the needs of the global author and publisher communities."
