ST PAUL, Minn. – May 2, 2011 – 3M is pleased to announce that it sponsored the library community's first "Lean Six Sigma for Libraries" class on March 29, 2011, at the 3M Innovation Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. The class was attended by 14 library managers and directors from five different library systems, including Johnson County Library in Overland Park, Kansas, Anoka County, Dakota County, and Washington County in Minnesota and from the city of St. Paul.
The hands-on workshop provided a comprehensive introduction to how Lean Six Sigma principles can be used to reduce waste, improve efficiency and increase patron satisfaction in library environments. The course covered the definition of Lean Six Sigma, common tools and metrics, types of waste and value stream mapping. Participants were able to use the Lean Six Sigma principles and tools to help improve selected processes at their library during the workshop.
Jason Buckeye, Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt and class instructor, stated, "We were delighted to hear from the participant feedback that all attendees believed they will be able to apply what they learned to help solve problems and pain points in their libraries.
