CHIPPENHAM, UNITED KINGDOM, 20 April 2011. Convergent Software Limited is proud to announce that its decoding and diagnostic software for ISO 28560-2 is at the core of an RFID certification procedure established by Public Library Services (PLS), a business unit of the State Library of South Australia.
With the introduction of ISO 28560-2 RFID for Libraries, a whole new set of opportunities has arisen for libraries converting to RFID or converting from older proprietary RFID systems. To ensure that RFID systems vendors meet the requirements of the standards, PLS, which supports the 140 public libraries within South Australia has contracted Sybis http://www.sybis.com.au/ to carry out independent tests of RFID-encoded tags presented by vendors. The purpose is to provide completely independent assurance to the libraries that the RFID tags comply with the encoding rules of ISO 28560-2. The diagnostic and quality control software tools from Convergent Software Limited are used to carry out the tests on specific encoded sample tags and to deliver a certified result that the tags have either passed or failed the diagnostic tests.
The diagnostics software is part of a suite of software tools developed by Convergent Software Limited to support all aspects of ISO 28560-2. The diagnostic software not only addresses conformance to ISO 28560-2, but points to the probable cause of encoding errors. Until now, the software has only been used by some RFID system vendors as part of their test programmes for developing their support for the standard. This breakthrough now extends the application of the software directly into the library community.
