Press Release: Auto-Graphics, Inc. [January 19, 2011]

January 20, 2011 - Auto-Graphics, Inc., a technology innovator providing library automation solutions for 40 years, today announced that Capital Sm@rtLibrary in Ottawa, Canada has selected Auto-Graphics' AGent Search to provide federated searching of up to 40 Z39.50 library targets. Capital Sm@rtLibrary is a collaborative partnership of member libraries in Canada's National Capital Region providing residents with fast, seamless access to the resources of Ottawa and Gatineau libraries and serving as a portal to libraries globally. This project will begin with an initial group of 11 libraries and 2 institutional repositories and is expected to expand to provide more coherent access to resources of the many libraries and institutional repositories in the region.

"We selected AGent Search for a variety of reasons. The software was extremely user friendly and we felt confident that Auto-Graphics had the experience and staff expertise to support bilingual systems in Canada," said Joan Cavanagh, chair of the Capital Sm@rtLibrary steering committee. "The system also provided us with a more sophisticated and flexible statistics package as well as room to grow organically as we expand the scope of the project to offer greater opportunities for sharing resources."

The implementation will support Capital Sm@rtLibrary members and provide a web portal to deliver simultaneous searching of Z39.50 catalogs including item status, where available, and includes the maintenance and creation of a Z39.50 physical union database. Capital Sm@rtLibrary allows eligible users to borrow books from various sources including the University of Ottawa Library, Dominican College, Algonquin College and Carleton University Library and to search the collections of the Canadian Museum of Civilization, Canadian War Museum, Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Info and Library and Archives Canada.

"Auto-Graphics has a long history of serving libraries in Canada and several of the Capital Sm@rtLibrary member libraries are long standing customers," commented Albert Flores, vice president of sales and marketing at Auto-Graphics. "Auto-Graphics is pleased to leverage the strengths of the AGent platform in the area of resource sharing for this multi-type library group, these types of implementations are at the heart of our consortial strengths."
