AlburyCity LibraryMuseum is the most recent site to convert to the web-based version of LIBERO, Version 6.
The library has selected a hosted model deployment, outsourcing network infrastructure, software maintenance and administration to LIBERO product experts and technical staff in Brisbane.
The LIBERO Version 6 upgrade provides users a range of new library management features, including an easy-to-use web-based interface, Web 2.0 services and LIBERO eMessaging. Newly developed integration with digital media services, eBooks, online bookstores and social networking tools provide libraries and organisations an assortment of tools that can be used with LIBERO to enhance information services.
AlburyCity LibraryMuseum has been using LIBERO since 2005 and operated as a hosted site for more than 12 months.
"The decision to opt for a hosted solution has generated massive efficiencies for us, drastically reducing infrastructure costs and staff workload. We’ve maximised time and resources for customer services and been able to dedicate these to other areas of the library," said AlburyCity Information and Library Collections Coordinator, Michelle Head.
Hosted at LIBERO’s Brisbane data centre, AlburyCity’s system has been deployed and maintained on a server configured to maximise data security, system stability and performance. Dedicated back-up, maintenance, patch installation and upgrade services are performed by LIBERO staff, seamlessly providing the library access to ongoing enhancements and new system features.
"As far as we’re concerned, the upgrade to Version 6 was relatively trouble-free," said Michelle.
"Training was performed here, onsite while the specifics of our system and the upgrade were managed remotely by LIBERO’s Service Team. Members and Staff have already responded very positively to the extra functionality since moving to Version 6 – added enhancements in security and the layout of front-of-house screens being major attributes of the new system", she said.
Last month AlburyCity LibraryMuseum showcased LIBERO Version 6 alongside the Public Library IMPACT Conference. Over 30 delegates attended a breakfast meeting to review system features and the customer experience working with LIBERO and the team from Insight Informatics, the Australian organisation that develops and supports LIBERO.
"LIBERO has facilitated a range of new initiatives and allowed us to individualise services, yet provided the potential to maintain cooperative services with fellow libraries in the NSW South West zone region," said Michelle.
"LIBERO’s Hosted and Managed Service range provides libraries a complete management solution – the best enabling technology and time-saving services," said LIBERO’s Ben Cronin. "We’re working to make ‘big’ technology, industry-leading software and specialist IT expertise accessible to libraries – no matter of size or budget."
The LIBERO Product Roadmap, recently published to the customer base highlights significant functionality to be made available to Version 6 clients via upgrade including LIBERO UNO, a fully-integrated federated search tool, ‘Shelf-Ready Acquisitions’ and a LIBERO iPhone Application.
"We’re very proud of Version 6 and the response from clients as we roll out what has been the focus of development for the last five years," said Ben Cronin.
LIBERO Version 6 is currently being implemented at libraries and organisations across the national LIBERO client base in the form of an upgrade and new sites across Australia.
