3M Introduces new RFID Solutions at ALA Annual Conference

Press Release: 3M Library Systems [June 21, 2010]

ST. PAUL, Minn. – June 21, 2010 – 3M Library Systems will introduce a number of new technologies and product designs at the upcoming American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference & Exhibition, June 25 - June 28 in Washington, DC. At the 3M booth, #1703, visitors can see the latest in 3M’s offerings of efficient and flexible RFID solutions, including:

  • Three New RFID SelfCheck System R-Series Designs, offering flexible and modern design options to fit libraries’ décor, and new software themes for an enhanced customer experience. New desktop, tabletop and kiosk designs offer libraries a range of sleek styles to choose from to encourage patron self-service.
  • The 3M RFID Detection System Model 9100 Clear, a detection system with clear panel design and modern styling. Flexible lighting and alarm notification options allow users to customize their systems, and the product integrates with 3M Command Center Software (see below) for centralized remote monitoring.
  • The 3M RFID Enhanced Pad Staff Workstation Model 896, the Enhanced Pad Staff Workstation that uses two-way communication with the Integrated Library System (ILS) circulation module to allow staff to process items quickly and safely, including items with flags, and special exceptions without reprocessing. The product integrates with many ILS systems, and can also integrate with ILS provided self-service software. The Enhanced Pad Staff Workstation works with Polaris 3.6, Innovative 2009A or greater and Item Status API, and will soon be available with SirsiDynix.
  • 3M Command Center Software, provides libraries with the most comprehensive systems management solution available. The web-based software provides real-time performance monitoring and management of 3M SelfCheck Systems and will soon include automated materials handling systems, and RFID Detection Systems, in one easy-to-use software package. 3M Command Center will replace 3M Stats and Status and Configuration Software.

"Our new designs allow libraries to incorporate RFID technology with sleek-looking fixtures and easy to use interfaces, making it easier than ever for library patrons to utilize self-service options," said Matt Bellamy, 3M RFID Marketing Manager. "On the staff-facing side, the new workstation and Command Center software let libraries integrate their RFID tools and manage their collections as efficiently as possible."
