BCR and LYRASIS Expand Cooperative Relationship

Press Release: Lyrasis [April 5, 2010]

Atlanta, GA, April 5, 2010 - BCR and LYRASIS are pleased to announce a collaborative agreement to transition BCR members to LYRASIS membership in the fall of 2010. Beginning immediately, the agreement will allow members of both BCR and LYRASIS to purchase products and services offered by either organization.

"The BCR Board recognized the current economic stresses that libraries and library organizations are facing, so we approached LYRASIS to discuss ways to limit costs without losing vital products and services. By joining forces with LYRASIS, we believe BCR members will not only continue to receive high levels of service, but will have even greater access to new training, consulting and networking options," said Greg Cotton, Chair of the BCR Board of Trustees.

The provisions of the agreement will enable BCR members to experience a seamless transition with immediate access to LYRASIS training classes and the ability to purchase electronic resources at discounted rates. Current BCR members will become members of LYRASIS effective October 1, 2010 with no LYRASIS dues for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2010/11. This membership will be effective through June 30, 2011.

In order to ensure continuity of service for BCR members, LYRASIS is adding some BCR employees to its staff and will maintain a regional office in Denver to facilitate operations on a long-term basis. BCR will phase out its operations by the end of December 2010.

"BCR is responding to the needs of its members to keep their overall costs level, "said Brenda Bailey-Hainer, BCR President and CEO. "This agreement is the result of two organizations working together to find a creative solution."

"We are pleased to extend our reach to the BCR membership. This is a great opportunity for LYRASIS members and staff to not only access new products and services but also to collaborate with new colleagues and draw on the experience of peers in other regions," added LYRASIS Board Chair, Joe Lucia.
