June 29, 2009 -- Rovigo, Italy and West Hartford, CT -- Index Data and Comperio are pleased to announce a marketing and technology partnership. Comperio is using Index Data's indexing and metasearching technology in its newest ILS and metasearching products and services.
Zebra, Index Data's MARC and XML-based index engine and database server, will power the latest version of Clavis NG, Comperio's flagship ILS product. Pazpar2 powers Comperio's new metasearch offering--Plinio--that was officially released at BiblioComm 2009 in March in Milan. Plinio adds federated searching capabilities to Discovery NG, the Social OPAC integrated into Clavis NG, the most advanced ILS available in the Italian library market. Plinio also integrates a Link Resolver and an Electronic Resources gateway.
Comperio joins a growing number of library and information software vendors that are using Index Data's open source technology for flagship products and services.
Dario Rigolin (CTO of Comperio): "I'm proud to partner with Index Data because I like the high quality of their products and the open source approach. We spent a year evaluating numerous proprietary and open source technologies. We concluded that Index Data's open source technology was a perfect match for our requirements: their quality of support, commitment to library standards, and really smart people were all factors in our decision."
Comperio is a young company born from the merging of ePortal Technologies and SpazioPi¨ Multimedia, two leaders in the Italian library software market. Both companies were early adopters of open source technologies and open standards, so joining forces to consolidate their gains in the Italian library marketplace was a natural next step.
With a Software-As-A-Service (SAAS) model and a never ending passion for innovation, Comperio designs its services and products to reflect real needs and expectations from customers ranging from small school libraries with several hundred books to huge consortia with millions of print and digital resources. The company is now the leading LMS vendor in Italy; its customers represent more than 500 libraries with holdings in excess of 5 millions items. http://www.comperio.it
About Index Data
Index Data has been developing standards-based high-performance information retrieval technologies since 1994. Our lower-level tools power an estimated two-thirds of worldwide Z39.50 search traffic. They are the gold standard against which other implementations are measured and tested. Our customers number among the most important companies and organizations in the library and cultural heritage sector.
Most Index Data software is distributed under an open source license. Our key tools include the YAZ family of networked information retrieval tools; Zebra, a high-performance XML/MARC indexing engine, scalable to large data sets on commodity hardware; Pazpar2, a high-performance, embeddable metasearch engine, and new this year, the Connector Framework, an incredibly powerful solution for building APIs or gateways to web-based user interfaces.
