Jan. 15, 2009 -- Norcross, GA. Integrated Technology Group (ITG), a division of Vernon Library Supplies, Inc., has partnered with Equinox Software, Inc. to create a comprehensive strategy that will assist Indiana libraries in the migration to Evergreen, an enterprise-class, open source, integrated library system (ILS). In some instances, the migration process includes the re-barcoding of the entire library collection using ITG’s Scan and Print System, which can re-label more than 250 books per hour.
"Our partnership with ITG and our use of the ITG Scan & Print System is helping us convert item barcodes so the libraries do not have to use a ‘replace barcode’ function in Evergreen. This conversion saves our customers at least 60-120 seconds per barcode," said Shae Tetterton, project manager for Equinox Software.
Evergreen Indiana is a growing consortium of libraries located throughout Indiana that use the Evergreen ILS. An additional 16 libraries have joined the Evergreen Indiana consortium and will migrate in 2009. By January 2009, 19 libraries are expected to use Evergreen. With the new system, patrons can search and reserve materials at member libraries, renew items and review the status of checked-out materials from a personal computer without having to travel to the library. The system also helps libraries manage, catalog and circulate materials more efficiently.

"The flexibility of the system gives libraries multiple workflow options to undertake and complete a re-barcoding project."
