CODA (Apeldoorn) selects Geac Vubis Smart

Press Release: Infor Library and Information Solutions [February 3, 2005]

February 3, 2005. Geac Libraries Division are pleased to announce that CODA has selected Vubis Smart library automation system.

CODA (Dutch for Culture Under Roof Apeldoorn) is more than just a new building, itīs a whole new concept. The Apeldoorn Museum, Apeldoorn Archives and Apeldoorn Public Library are now housed together, all under one roof which creates a unique combination in the Netherlands.

After working with the Tobias library management system for the last couple of years, CODA has chosen Geacīs Vubis Smart. The implementation will commence in the first quarter of 2005. CODA expects that the new system will deliver considerable advantages for the libraryīs users and staff.

CODAīs decision to choose Vubis Smart was well thought out and was confirmed on Monday January 10, 2005 with the signing of a contract. The choice was preceded by a careful selection process. At the beginning of 2003, at the request of a group of 37 Tobias libraries, an inquiry was set up to search for contemporarily, certified systems, which were designed to successfully handle the workflows within a big library site. From the shortlist that followed, CODA preferred Vubis Smart, on the basis of the list of requirements that CODA formulated.

All criteria were taken into consideration: the solidity and experience of Geac, the vendor’s international orientation, and of course the flexibility and user friendliness of the system. For instance the search possibilities for the end users will reach a higher level by introducing user profiles and using fuzzy logic. Both in the library buildings and from home, through the internet, people can use the system. For the staff, Geac delivers all facilities to manage circulation, stock management and borrower administration efficiently.

Vubis Smart will be implemented in April 2005 throughout the entire organisation, after an internal preparation and training route, in which Geac staff will support. The library currently has 57,000 members. Annually about 1.7 million books and about 100,000 audio visual materials, are circulated.
