March 24, 2008 -- Emeryville, CA. The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) has selected the Millennium integrated library system. Located at in Santiago, Chile, ECLAC is one of five regional commissions of the United Nations.
The Library of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) provides specialized information services on the economic and social development of Latin America and the Caribbean, in accordance with the program of work of the Commission. It has regional offices in Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Montevideo, Port-of-Spain, and Washington, D.C.
"The ECLAC Library is particularly pleased to have selected Millennium in the year the Commission is celebrating its 60th anniversary," says Ellen Schaffer, Library Chief. As we look towards the future and to modernizing the Library, we expect that Millennium will provide us with the mechanism to offer quality services to the ECLAC community throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as to users worldwide."
ECLAC joins University of the Andes as a partner of Innovative Interfaces in Chile.
ECLAC (www.eclac.cl) was founded in 1948 for the purposes of contributing to the economic development of Latin America, coordinating actions directed towards this end, and reinforcing economic relationships among the countries and with the other nations of the world. The promotion of the region's social development was later included among its primary objectives. In June 1951, the Commission established the ECLAC sub-regional headquarters in Mexico City, which serves the needs of the Central American sub-region, and in December 1966, the ECLAC subregional headquarters for the Caribbean was founded in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, and Tobago. In addition, ECLAC maintains country offices in Buenos Aires, Brasilia, Montevideo and Bogotá, as well as a liaison office in Washington, D.C. Forty-four countries are member states of the organization.
