Library Automation Futures: working toward new models
Abstract: Marshall Breeding will give his view of the current state of library automation, some of its shortcomings, and present some options and opportunities for a new generation of technologies for libraries. The current mold of integrated library systems was built on assumptions and workflows that no longer apply. Can effective automation systems be evolved from what we have today? Or do is it time for a new start? The new breed of next-generation library catalogs is a small step in the right direction. Marshall will also give his perspective on the open source ILS movement.
