Dallas Public Library Selects Polaris ILS

Press Release: Polaris Library Systems [January 8, 2008]

Syracuse, NY, January 8, 2008- Polaris Library Systems, a leading provider of library automation technology, announced today that the Dallas Public Library has selected the Polaris Integrated Library System (ILS) for the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library and 25 branch locations.

The new system will provide patrons with 24/7 access to full-text journal articles, e-books and library catalog information. It will allow users to locate materials quickly by integrating cataloging, circulation, acquisitions and other administrative functions in real time.

After conducting a two-year search evaluating multiple vendors and the needs of its libraries, the Dallas Public Library chose the Polaris ILS to replace its current system, which has been in place for more than a decade.

"We're very much looking forward to 'going live' with this new system on May 15," said Director of Libraries Laurie Evans. "The ILS will allow the Dallas Public Library to provide more services to our customers as well as help increase internal productivity and efficiency."

Using the new system, patrons can simultaneously search multiple databases, view digital images and e-mail search results. In addition, links to book jackets, reviews and similar materials are offered along with spelling suggestions for misspelled search inquiries.

For convenience, patrons can renew materials and pay fines online. They may also choose how they want to be notified about requested materials, overdue materials, new releases and fines. The alerts can be set up for e-mail, telephone or mail notices.

"Polaris is proud to partner with the Dallas Public Library," said William Schickling, president and CEO of Polaris Library Systems. "The fully-integrated technology they have selected will improve patron satisfaction and create new efficiencies throughout the Central Library and its branches."
