Corvallis-Benton Public Library upgrades federated search with WebFeat

Press Release: Webfeat [August 27, 2003]

Old Brookville, N.Y., August 27, 2003 - Corvallis-Benton Public Library (www.thebestlibrary.net) has replaced its previous federated search engine with a new one from WebFeat. The new WebFeat Prism system enables Corvallis patrons to simultaneously search any or all of its online information sources from a single, intuitive interface.

Corvallis is one of a growing number of The Library Corporation (TLC) clients to implement federated searching through its partnership with WebFeat. This partnership adds the federated searching capabilities of patent-pending WebFeat Prism to TLC's YouSeeMore portal, which lets libraries incorporate all of their information in a series of user-friendly web pages.

The Corvallis WebFeat system, named "Multi-Database Search" by the library, enables patrons to simultaneously search across 14 subscription databases and library catalogs. These databases include 4 library catalogs and 10 article databases. Library patrons can access the system from the "Magazine articles & more" link from the library's home page.

The Corvallis WebFeat system also includes the WebFeat Usage Tracker (WUT), which tracks and instantly reports usage for the library's 14 databases. WUT eliminates the time-consuming requirement to request usage data from dozens of content providers.

"We're pleased to partner with TLC to deliver federated search capability to Corvallils and other clients," says Todd Miller, Founder and CEO of WebFeat. "We share a mission with TLC to provide technology that enables the library web experience to be both transparent and user-friendly for patrons."

Gary Kirk, Vice President of TLC, said the WebFeat system helps TLC resolve a problem that libraries and patrons have faced for years. "We are very happy to enhance TLCs product line with the WebFeat Prism system," said Kirk. "By allowing patrons to conduct one search across multiple databases, the WebFeat solution saves patron time and effort and helps libraries retain and attract patrons. It's a terrific value-added feature that helps us respond to a genuine client need."
