October 9, 2007 -- Emeryville, CA—Akron-Summit County Public Library in northeastern Ohio has selected the Millennium integrated library solution and the Encore discovery services platform. The Library will also participate in SearchOhio, a Web-based resource-sharing service that brings together statewide library collections in a single portal for the communities they serve. SearchOhio is driven by Innovative's INN-Reach direct consortial borrowing solution.
A Leap Ahead
"We wanted to simultaneously improve our Web presence and our library automation system," says David Jennings, Library Director. "Our reference and technical services were looking for flexibility and usability for staff and customers. They were unanimous in their choice of Innovative. We're impressed both by the WebPAC Pro catalog and Encore's searching capacities. The Innovative products represent a leap ahead for us."
SearchOhio
Taking advantage of SearchOhio was also a factor in the library staff's decision. "We wanted the ability to move beyond our borders and share with other libraries, particularly in northeast Ohio. By participating in SearchOhio we can share materials without having to set up a new, local library consortium."
SearchOhio makes over eight million items available through a consortium of public libraries including: Warren-Trumbull County, Youngstown-Mahoning County, Cuyahoga County, Toledo-Lucas County, Cuyahoga Falls, Westerville, Kent Free, Portage County District, Reed Memorial, and Greene County.
The Innovative technology will be a complement to a system-wide building program featuring new construction of fourteen branch libraries and the downtown Akron main library. The Library also selected Innovative's WebBridge LR, Pathfinder Pro, and Research Pro.
