California State University, Fresno selects Innovative ERM

Press Release: Innovative Interfaces, Inc. [September 26, 2007]

September 26, 2007 Emeryville, CA—Innovative announced today that California State University (CSU), Fresno has installed the Innovative ERM to simplify the management and discovery of the library's electronic resources. This marks the milestone of 200 installations of Electronic Resource Management, now in use at academic and public libraries in Africa, North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.

Says Associate University Librarian for Information Technology Hye Ok Park: "The library is heavily investing in e−resources so we need a better system to handle all the 'ins and outs' of delivering them to patrons. We are very happy about the initial outcome of the ERM implementation. Our students and faculty can get from entering a keyword search in the catalog to getting to the full-text in two mouse clicks."

With 30,000 titles in the collection, it was not possible in the past to manage this much information or present it to library users. For the first time, the library can present all their journal titles and e−resource content packages in Millennium's WebPAC Pro. Says Park: "From a search for a LexisNexis® title, for example the American Banking Association Banking Journal, users can see ERM data in the catalog record results screen. They can see what formats are available—print or electronic—and the coverage dates for each resource. This opens up a new perspective they did not have before and gets full-text to them right away."

The integration of Electronic Resource Management and Millennium provides another bonus for CSU Fresno. "Electronic Resource Management was a natural next step after implementing Millennium in 2007. How we pay for, subscribe to, analyze, and make available e−resources are now all contained in the integrated environment of Millennium. This is a huge advance for everyone dealing with library information, inside and outside the library."

"The broad acceptance of Electronic Resource Management is due to the dedication of our library partners and Innovative's continued focus on what kinds of technologies currently are needed by libraries," says Ted Fons, Senior Product Manager. "The Innovative ERM is the most complete solution to the challenges of organizing information so that users can discover it and staff can make the best decisions possible about the materials they deliver."

Now approaching its fourth full release, the Innovative ERM has been implemented both as an integrated module of the Millennium library management system and as a stand-alone application.
