September 17, 2007 -- Emeryville, CA—Innovative announced today that Cook Memorial Public Library District, one of the busiest public libraries in the state of Illinois, has selected the Millennium integrated library technology platform and Encore discovery services platform. The library district serves 60,000 residents of six communities north of Chicago and circulated over 1.3 million items in 2006.
Innovative's patron empowerment suite, My Millennium, will be a welcome new feature for District. "Right now, we have over 10,000 active user holds in our system," says Katie Olsen, Training and IT Coordinator. "Better service and patron control is a priority. With Millennium, we can give patrons the ability to temporarily freeze holds and actually see where they are in line for active holds, which is fantastic. We were also impressed with how easy it is for everyone on our staff to create reports using Millennium."
The Encore discovery services platform will incorporate all of the District's resources into one easy search. "With Encore, the search experience will be closer to cutting-edge, web 2.0 offerings," says Pam Skittino, Technical Services Manager. "We want to get users finding things, not just searching for them, and Encore will help us achieve this. With Encore, each search will present print materials and information from our 72 subscription e−resources like Reference USA and the Public Records Electronic Database."
Expanding Technology for an Expanding Library
"Right now, our library facilities are expanding," says Library Director Daniel Armstrong. We are taking steps to make sure everything, from our heating system to our integrated library system, is operating at maximum efficiency. Innovative fits our efficiency needs. We are looking forward to working with Innovative long-term as our physical space gets bigger and our needs for new features and resource sharing becomes more important."
The District also selected Millennium's RSS Feed Builder, a product which gives patrons timely information about new library materials and the latest information about the arrival of requested books.
