ALEPH 500 speeds into production at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics

Press Release: Ex Libris [April 26, 2007]

Verona, Italy--April 26, 2007. Atlantis S.r.l., the exclusive distributor of Ex Libris products in Italy, is pleased to announce that the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), in Trieste, Italy, has switched to production with the ALEPH® 500 integrated library system. Following the signing of a contract in September 2006, ICTP and Atlantis moved into high gear on data analysis and mapping as well as migration and training programs. Three months later the ICTP library was already in production with all ALEPH 500 modules.

"ALEPH 500 has been chosen as our new library software because it fits our present requirements and will suit our future developments for new services," commented Maria Fasanella, head of the ICTP library. "Atlantis S.r.l., the Italian distributor of the product, has installed the system and provided assistance in data migration and staff training."

"ICTP's choice of ALEPH 500 greatly increases the reach of Ex Libris products in Italy," explained Erwin Linthout, general manager of Atlantis S.r.l. "We are honoured to have such an illustrious organization join the Ex Libris customer community."

About the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics:

Founded in 1964, the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics operates under a tripartite agreement between the government of Italy and two United Nations agencies, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). ICTP staff scientists are international experts who carry out cutting-edge research and constantly interact with a large number of visiting scientists. ICTP welcomes about 5,000 scientists annually, representing some 170 nations and 40 international organizations. Approximately 50% of the 100,000 scientists who have participated in ICTP research activities are from developing countries.

The ICTP library houses more than 64,000 books and 443 current print subscriptions; it provides full-text access to nearly 3,500 e-journals. The ICTP library holds one of the largest collections of specialized literature in physics and mathematics in Europe.
