Brussels, Belgium - March 15, 2007. Ex Libris (Germany) announced today that the Council of the European Union has selected the ALEPH 500 integrated library system for its library. The Council, the highest executive organization of the European Union and gathering place of EU heads of state and ministers, is the sixth EU organization to adopt Ex Libris solutions. The other EU customers are the European Commission, the European Committee of the Regions, the European Economic and Social Committee, the European Central Bank, and the European Court of Auditors. The ALEPH 500 system will replace the organization's EOS International GLAS and MiniDoc systems.
Following a lengthy bidding and evaluation process, the Council selected ALEPH 500 for its system architecture, multilingual capabilities, and flexible user interface, all of which make it perfectly compatible with the Council's organizational structure. Another important factor is the ability of the ALEPH thesaurus model to integrate the EU thesauri.
Jürgen Küssow, senior consultant at Ex Libris Germany, explains: "The EU has an ambitious goal of creating a unified IT infrastructure for all EU institutions. The unified infrastructure will give EU citizens access to all common information resources. We are proud that ALEPH will play a central role in the realization of this goal."
