VTLS is proud to announce the signing of a contract with Columbia University in New York to install VITAL (repository services) at the Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN).
CIESIN is a center within the Earth Institute at Columbia University that works at the intersection of the social, natural, and information sciences. They specialize in on-line data and information management, spatial data integration and training, and interdisciplinary research related to human interactions in the environment.
"We're extremely pleased to welcome Columbia University's CIESIN to the elite and growing customer list of VITAL" said Carl Grant, President and COO of VTLS. "The work performed at the Center is both impressive and important. We are very proud to be providing a technology solution for them to use in furthering that work."
"CIESIN is eager to work with VTLS in implementing new digital object management infrastructure within our center," said Dr. Robert Chen, Interim Director of CIESIN. "We believe that VITAL will make the maintenance of our interdisciplinary data and information resources more sustainable and efficient and help us serve our users more effectively."
CIESIN's Senior Archives Manager, Dr. Robert Downs, notes, "CIESIN is working with the Columbia University libraries to establish a new long-term digital archive based on FEDORA for a range of digital data holdings. We believe that VITAL will greatly facilitate implementation and management of this archive and help us demonstrate the full potential of such tools in an academic environment."
