A note on using a consistency-driven approach to CD-ROM selection

Library software review [March 1997]

.

Abstract: The authors investigate the use of a knowledge-based system based on a pairwise comparisons method of data gathering with a consistency measure as a validation technique in the CD-ROM selection process. Traditional criteria such as price, content, and authority ought to be supplemented in the CD-ROM selection process by certain factors that are unique to electronic publications, such as software and hardware requirements and network suitability. Consequently, the number of criteria that must be considered can become unwieldy. A consistency-driven pairwise comparison method is used for ranking (prioritizing) the criteria in a consistent and rational manner.
