ARROW scores a bull's-eye with QUT's selection of VITAL

Press Release: VTLS, Inc. [June 24, 2006]

Blacksburg, VA - VTLS and the ARROW (Australian Research Repositories Online to the World) Project are pleased to announce that the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) has become the newest institution to have signed a contract for the VITAL solution.

QUT, based in Brisbane, is a top Australian university with global connections and a reputation for quality undergraduate and postgraduate courses, a wide range of studies and applied research best suited to the needs of industry and the community. Their leadership work in the field of Institutional Repositories is well known around the world.

The total number of Australian academic institutions running the VITAL solution now numbers nine. VITAL is the premier institutional repository product from VTLS and uses the open source digital object repository FEDORA. FEDORA was originally conceived and designed at Cornell University with funding from the National Science Foundation. The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation is funding the open-source FEDORA that is jointly being developed by the University of Virginia and Cornell University.

ARROW is a national project funded by the Australian Department of Education, Science and Training under the Commonwealth Government's Backing Australia's Ability initiative. The ARROW project is creating solutions to support best-practice institutional digital repositories comprising e-prints, digital theses and electronic publishing. A wide range of digital content types are managed in these repositories. The original ARROW consortium consists of Monash University as the lead institution, Swinburne University of Technology, the University of New South Wales and the National Library of Australia.

"We're happy to welcome this new member to the ARROW project," said David Groenewegen, ARROW Project Manager, "as we continue to build a vibrant and exciting ARROW community."

Note: The FEDORA product developed by UVA and Cornell is not to be confused with Linux's Red Hat Fedora product.
