Bennington College selects Millennium to support students' diverse research needs

Press Release: Innovative Interfaces, Inc. [April 27, 2006]

Emeryville, CA—The Company announced today that the Edward Clark Crossett Library at Bennington College (Vermont) has selected the Millennium integrated library technology platform and Electronic Resource Management to create a seamless and complete process of searching and finding print materials and e-content. The Library will also implement WebPAC Pro with RightResult search technology along with WebBridge Smart Linking. With these state-of-the art access tools, students and faculty can conduct searches from a single point of access, receive relevance-ranked results, and be guided by Millennium to information appropriate to their specific query. Bennington is replacing a TLC system.

Library staff at Crossett Library concluded that implementing these complementary tools would best support easy information discovery for a student body pursuing a great number of individually selected academic paths. "Our challenge at the library is to provide effective service when each of our library users has a slightly different need and is working on a distinct project," says Library Director Oceana Wilson. "We see a good fit between our library mission and Millennium's various patron-driven capacities, as well as ways of facilitating searches and making the desired materials quickly retrievable."

Crossett Library will use Electronic Resource Management to handle their 11,000 database subscription titles and present content and licensing information integrated within the online catalog. Says Wilson: "We're thrilled to be using Electronic Resource Management. With Bennington's relatively small user base, it's important that the resources in which we invest are fully utilized. Integration between Millennium and the Innovative ERM is truly a valuable tool in this context. These tools are also important because our database holdings are starting to surpass print and we have a relatively small staff to handle them all."

Library staff were also impressed with the speed of Innovative's product development and the relevance of Millennium's new features. Says Wilson: "When comparing library technology systems, we saw that Innovative was further along in answering the challenge of getting the right information to users where there are a lot of information choices."
