Ex Libris is pleased to announce that after a thorough evaluation process, the Library of Shih Hsin University in Taiwan (SHU) has chosen the ALEPH 500 Integrated Library System to replace its existing system. The Library of SHU has also selected ARC, the ALEPH Reporting Center.
According to Dr. Yu, Director of Shih Hsin University Library, "Since the 1990's, the automation management of the library has been based on a home-grown system which no longer meets the current needs of such a sophisticated library. After comparing all the known products on the market, ALEPH 500 and the Library Information Division of TOP Information Technologies, the distributor of Ex Libris products in Taiwan, were finally chosen. This decision was based to a large extent on the reliability of the system and its ability to meet our current and future requirements for the library. The Library Information Division of TOP provided a comprehensive plan for migration to ALEPH 500 and for the training of the staff, and this further contributed to our selection."
"In this project, we plan to develop a Decision Support System for our librarians using ARC functionality. The open architecture of the ALEPH 500 solution will enable us to build a digital library, which will provide extensive services and subject resources to more users," noted Dr. Yu. "We're really pleased to have concluded a contract with TOP Information Technologies, and look forward to the challenges and excitement of implementing the new system."
"SHU is one of the most prestigious private universities in Taiwan, with a very high standard of library operations," says Vincent Kao, VP of the Library Information Division of TOP Information Technologies. "We're very glad to have this opportunity to work with SHU and are confident that the success of this important implementation will be a major milestone for both SHU Library and the Library Information Division at TOP."
