Emeryville, CA—The company announced today that the Dorset County Council (UK) has selected the Millennium integrated library management system to power all 32 sites in the region. "I am very pleased that we have signed the contract with Innovative Interfaces," says Paul Leivers, Dorset's Head of Cultural Services. "The company was selected as our preferred supplier after a rigorous tendering and selection process. We look forward to implementing Millennium over the coming months."
With 300 staff using the new system, an easy-to-use tool was a must for the Council. The library staff was impressed with the ability to configure the Web OPAC with simple Web editors. "This will help us maintain the brand and style of presentation we need," says Leivers. When the staff got a chance to see Millennium was demonstrated they noticed its ease of use. Says Leivers: "Our staff was immediately able to see how they'd be able to use the system. It's intuitive and that's a major plus for us from our point of view. Staff were diving into it right away and navigating the system with little difficulty."
The Council also is exploring how they can implement Millennium's self-service tools. Online Patron Registration, held-item delivery, and the clear and clean presentation of the Millennium Web OPAC all have the potential to deliver the conveniences that customers want.
Having implemented the first public library computerized catalog in the UK, the Council has long been focused on providing first-rate technology to its customers. "We are excited about realizing the potential of the system to put enriched content on the Web, continue our Short Message Service (SMS) capabilities, and develop specialized tools for our school library service. We're impressed with the openness of Innovative staff, which is important because a good working relationship is at the heart of the matter when working with library technology."
