Blacksburg, VA -- VIEWS continues to grow with the addition of GIS Information Systems, Inc. to the membership list. There are now twelve active organizational members in the initiative. GIS is developer of the Polaris® integrated library system.
“GIS has been closely tracking web services and their potential applications in the library industry, " said Candy Zemon, Senior Product Strategist. "An example of our initiatives is the work we are doing with book vendors to implement an XML-based service centered on the ordering process. We look forward to working with other ILS vendors through VIEWS to find a consistent way to approach this and other library niche applications for web services."
“VIEWS continues to demonstrate tremendous vendor dedication to the larger needs of the profession through the cooperative efforts of the membership,” said Carl Grant, Chair of VIEWS, “Librarians should be encouraging all automation vendors to participate so as to ensure their library's needs are represented in this effort to define a very important aspect of the future of library automation.”
A VIEWS website was recently launched at www.views-consortia.org. Detailed information can be found there on the initiative and the current projects being undertaken
