County of Henrico Public Library chooses VTLS FASTRAC RFID solution

Press Release: VTLS, Inc. [June 26, 2004]

Blacksburg, VA – VTRAX, a division of VTLS Inc., is pleased to announce today that the County of Henrico Public Library has selected FASTRAC, a second-generation asset management system based upon radio frequency identification (RFID) technology for enhancing their circulation services and security.

The FASTRAC system will enable the County of Henrico Public Library to provide enhanced circulation services to patrons, while streamlining workflow and processing tasks for staff. These services include such tasks as multiple-item processing for checkout, check-in, as well as patron self-check out. At the same time, FASTRAC provides for rapid, uninterrupted security for all library materials. Collection management is faster and more accurate and library staff spends less time with repetitive, clerical tasks.

The County of Henrico Public Library currently has ten branches and a bookmobile, with plans to replace their Tuckahoe Area Library and Innsbrook Branch Library within the next two years. All 11 facilities are slated to use the FASTRAC RFID system. The library will begin tagging their collection of over 800,000 items with the new TagSYS C320 ISO 18000 standard tags this fall. In addition to implementing the FASTRAC RFID technology within the normal workflow areas of the library such as staff circulation and programming stations, the library has placed a special emphasis on use of the patron self service. The library will be installing FASTRAC self check units within each of their branches to leverage the capabilities of RFID, which will allow patrons to check out all formats, quickly and easily in the future.

“We are proud to welcome the County of Henrico Public Library to our growing customer base that is embracing our FASTRAC RFID solution,” said Carl Grant, President of VTLS Inc. “We believe we deliver the fastest and most efficient implementation of RFID on the market today, and FASTRAC has been designed to anticipate the flexibility, budget and growth issues challenging libraries in the future.”

The County of Henrico Public Libraries FASTRAC RFID project begins fall '04 and concludes with the anticipated opening of Shady Grove (which is replacing Innsbrook) in fall '06.
