Canada's second-largest public library system to install Horizon

Press Release: Dynix [June 01, 2004]

PROVO, Utah--June 1, 2004--Dynix, the world's leading provider of automation technologies, solutions, and services for libraries, today announced that Calgary Public Library (Calgary, AB), Canada's second-largest public library system and a Dynix ILS customer since 1995, has selected the Horizon Information Management System.

Calgary Public Library (CPL) sought a new automation system in order to meet its users' demands for enhanced access to the library's catalogue and electronic resources, to provide users with self-service and other advanced technology features, and to help the library achieve increased productivity and efficiency in its operations. The decision to install Horizon followed an extensive RFP process in which Dynix was selected over a number of bidders.

"We feel honored to be extending our partnership with Calgary Public Library, one of the leading libraries in North America," said Dynix President and CEO Jack Blount. "Calgary Public plays an extremely vibrant role in its community, and its vision for using technology to constantly improve the service it provides to users is exemplary. I am confident that Calgary's commitment to exceed patrons' expectations will be enhanced by Horizon, Horizon Information Portal, and other products from Dynix."

"We chose Horizon because it offered greater flexibility and the best balance of usability and functionality. Horizon will provide us with all the tools necessary to meet the demanding needs of our users," said Library Director Gerry Meek. "Horizon's user-friendly interface will make it easier for both staff and customers to use the software, making the transition from our current system to the new system a smoother process for everyone."

Meek added that Horizon Information Portal will provide library users with a standardized look and feel for accessing information, whether in a local branch or working from home or office and connecting via the Internet. Additionally, Meek said CPL staff will enjoy improved workflow through Horizon's graphical interface, which provides staff with the ability to quickly access all required functions.

"We are also excited that staff and users will be able to use one search command to retrieve information from the library catalogue as well as e-library databases and other selected Web sites," Meek said. "We look forward to our continued relationship with Dynix and to exploring future partnership opportunities with the company."
