Buffalo and Erie County Public Library moves ahead with Sirsi

Press Release: SIRSI Corporation [February 02, 2004]

St. Louis — February 2, 2004 — Sirsi Corporation, celebrating 25 years of delivering technology “firsts” to the library community, announced today that the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library (B&ECPL) headquartered in Buffalo, NY, has selected Sirsi to help promote the library's mission as well as improve services, accessibility, and ease-of-use for both staff and patrons. “We were impressed with Sirsi's knowledge of the library community and Sirsi's comprehensive inventory of technologies to benefit library staff and patrons,” said Michael C. Mahaney, B&ECPL director. “As a large metropolitan library system circulating nearly 9 million items per year, we need a system that is up-to-date, scalable, and built for tomorrow's needs.”

B&ECPL's suite of Sirsi products and services includes the Sirsi Unicorn® Library Management System, the WorkFlows® staff interface, Unicorn APIs, Web 2 public interface, Sirsi DataStream for enriched catalog content, SmartPORT 239.50 copy cataloging client, Sirsi SIP2 Interface, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), and other related library management services. “In today's rapidly changing world, residents of Buffalo and Erie County value and rely on their public libraries,” said Mahaney. “Real people – students, children, business owners, educators, and senior citizens – will benefit from the library's enhanced services, greater resources, and informative programs. These individuals and their needs will be represented in the new Sirsi system, as it assists the talented staff of B&ECPL in day-to-day operations and provides patrons with 24/7 access to the library and its resources. Together, we will reinforce the library's relevance in the everyday lives of people seeking information and enrichment.”

“Sirsi has been a valued partner of the B&ECPL for many years,” said Shirley Whelan, B&ECPL's corporate information officer. “We feel that the migration to Unicorn will be smooth because Sirsi understands our data and technical needs. The Library looks forward to continuing a long-standing relationship.”

“We are delighted that the B&ECPL System decided to migrate to Unicorn and remain with Sirsi,” said Sirsi's Marty Keeley, vice president of strategic initiatives & sales.
