The CARL Corporation and The Library Corporation today announced a product integration agreement under which CARL will supply the The Library Corporation's popular new ITS for Windows™ technical services workstation software to its customers as an integrated system component.
The agreement will provide CARL customers with cataloging tools that go well beyond the norm to include key features that integrate Windows, the Internet, and client/server technology. CARL is building upon an 18-month development effort made by The Library Corporation (TLC), creators of BiblioFile.
The ITS system was designed to provide technical services staff a productivity tool that includes a powerful MARC editor, sixteen access points to MARC data, Internet-based record searching, linked access to MARC manuals and lookup tables, authority verification, and MARC format validation. "We saw the need for a tool that permitted technical services staff to maintain high cataloging standards in the face of increasing budget pressure," commented TLC's R&D Chief Dr. Mark Wilson. "ITS is a bona fide powerhouse."
CARL President and COO, Rebecca Lenzini believes the offering will strengthen CARL System™ users' ability to maximize productivity in their technical services departments. The product also provides immediate access to any CARL catalog as well as Z39.50 access to non-CARL catalogs. (To access a non-CARL Z39.50 source, such as a bibliographic utility, the library must have privileges with that source.)
The Library Corporation (TLC) is a principal supplier of automated library management and reference systems. In addition to ITS for Windows™, TLC produces the Intelligent Catalog™, BiblioFile Circulation, and NetPAC™.
CARL Corporation develops and markets the CARL Integrated Library System™, as well as a variety of other library products and services such as Everybody's Catalog™ and Kid's Catalog™ graphical user interfaces, NoveList™ readers advisory database, and CARLweb™.
