PROVO, Utah -- November 6, 2003 -- Dynix, the world's leading provider of automation technologies, solutions, and services for libraries, announced today that five Dynix customers in Australia will migrate from existing Dynix ILS deployments to the company's Horizon Information Management System. Adelaide City Council (Adelaide, South Australia), City of Onkaparinga Libraries (Noarlunga Centre, South Australia), Newcastle Region Library (Newcastle, New South Wales), Port Adelaide Enfield Library Service (Port Adelaide, South Australia), and Sutherland Shire Libraries & Information Service (Sutherland, New South Wales) have selected Horizon because of its advanced feature set.
Adelaide City Council has been a Dynix customer for the past 10 years. With the new Horizon system, the library's user base of 88,000 people will now have access to enriched content and will experience the convenience of an advanced email notification system.
A Dynix customer since 1991, the City of Onkaparinga Libraries cited a number of features that were critical in its decision to upgrade, including greater searching capability, improved access to databases, and a fresh and personalized user interface. "We want everything about our library to reflect our vision of being a leading-edge and customer-centered organization," said Geoff Strempel, Manager of Onkaparinga Libraries. "Horizon is a 21st century system with a range of features that provide significant benefits for our customers and improve the efficiency of our staff."
In addition to new features and a long-standing history with Dynix, Newcastle Region Library selected Horizon to ease the migration process and ensure the integrity of existing data during the transition. Newcastle has more than 500,000 items in its current database, has 113,442 registered borrowers, and circulated 2.15 million items last year. "We were really impressed with the more simple system administration that uses the industry standard Microsoft SQL server," said David Tsang, Information Technology Librarian at Newcastle Region Library. "Horizon also enables better data extraction and the overall integration with other Dynix products is much better."
Port Adelaide Enfield Library Service has been a Dynix customer since 1991. When deciding to upgrade, the library evaluated a number of systems, but ultimately concluded that Horizon offered the best value and the right combination of features. "Our IT department was really advocating for a move to a completely Windows-based platform," said Pam Welford, Technical Services Librarian at Port Adelaide Enfield Library Service. "We also liked Horizon's cataloguing module, authority control capabilities, and the Horizon Information Portal."
Sutherland Shire Libraries & Information Service is a large metropolitan public library that issues 1.6 million loans annually. Sutherland Shire has been a Dynix customer since 1992 and cited a long standing productive business relationship with the company as one of its primary reasons for migrating to Horizon.
"It is very gratifying that we will be continuing our long standing relationships with these libraries," said Petros Demetriou, Dynix Vice President of Sales, Asia-Pacific. "I am also pleased that Horizon, through it's flexibility and efficiency, is demonstrating it is in tune with the vision modern and progressive libraries have for meeting their own customer's needs, today and in the future."
