California Academy of Sciences implements ALEPH500

Press Release: Ex Libris [October 06, 2003]

Ex Libris (USA) announced today the implementation in record time of its ALEPH500 library management system at the California Academy of Sciences. The Academy signed a contract for installation of ALEPH on August 5, 2003, and went live less than 2 months later on October 1, 2003.

Anne Marie Malley, Academy Librarian, commented, “After an extensive review of library catalogs, the Academy chose the Ex Libris ALEPH catalog, the same catalog system used by Harvard University, UC Santa Barbara, UC Davis, the University of the Pacific, and many others. When we visited Ex Libris libraries and contacted librarians at those sites, we were always impressed with the level of enthusiasm they had for their ALEPH catalogs and how very pleased they were at the level of knowledge, expertise, and attentiveness shown by the Ex Libris staff.”

“We are delighted to welcome the California Academy of Sciences Library to the Ex Libris family of libraries,” said Russell McDonald, Vice President of Sales for Ex Libris (USA). “They join the growing number of libraries in California—from the University of the Pacific to the California State University System—that have recognized the advantages of partnering with Ex Libris.”

Larry Currie, User Services Librarian at the Academy Library, observed, “Our conversion was one for the record books: with less than 2 months' life left in our existing library system, the Ex Libris team operated superbly. We had a supersonic ride—and met our joint deadlines. We at the Academy are very pleased with the results.” Katrina Anderson, Vice President of Operations for Ex Libris (USA), added, “The accelerated and problem-free implementation at the California Academy of Sciences very clearly demonstrates ALEPH's ability to reach out to libraries large and small alike. We see the Academy's implementation as a model for many future ALEPH installations around the world.”
