Dynix becomes first LMS vendor to achieve Microsoft Verified for SQL Server 2000 status

Press Release: Dynix [June 21, 2003]

Abstract: Dynix announced that it is the first library management system vendor to successfully pass the “Verified for SQL Server 2000” test.

TORONTO, Canada – June 21, 2003 – Dynix, the world's leading provider of automation technologies, solutions, and services for libraries, announced today that it is the first library management system (LMS) vendor to successfully pass the “Verified for SQL Server 2000” test.

“Verified for SQL Server 2000” testing is the final step for Dynix before “Certified for SQL Server 2000” testing is offered in July 2003. Dynix will be one of the first companies in the world to undergo “Certified for SQL Server 2000” testing as a means to attaining Microsoft Gold Certified Partner status. The “Certified for SQL Server 2000” status will offer existing and new customers the assurance that the Dynix technology platform will scale and mature to meet their particular and changing needs. In addition, the Microsoft Gold Certified Partner Program also helps customers to identify companies that have proven their commitment and expertise in delivering Microsoft technologies. Microsoft Gold Certified Partners are evaluated by a higher set of criteria, including enhanced certification levels for products and a portfolio of real-world customer references.

From day one, Dynix recognized that libraries vary dramatically in size and that in order to accommodate these differences, it was essential for its LMS system to operate with relational databases that comply with SQL Server protocols. With Microsoft SQL Server at the heart of the Horizon Information Management System, ordering and tracking new materials, catalog creation, serials and reserve management, and resource sharing with libraries can easily and affordably scale to accommodate collections of all sizes.

“Microsoft's reputation for excellence, quality, and service has its foundation in uncovering new ways for technology to enhance and enrich lives, a vision that mirrors our own for the modern library,” said Dynix President and CEO Jack Blount. “In an era where libraries are constantly struggling to find ways to do more with less, it's essential that their LMS systems deliver exceptional levels of value – our relationship with Microsoft will lead to unprecedented efficiencies that enhance librarian workflows and expand user services.”

“Dynix and Microsoft share the philosophy that technology can help organizations reach their full potential,” said Peter Boit, regional vice president at Microsoft. “By joining forces with Dynix, we're coupling one great technology with another to create a host of new and exciting solutions for libraries of all sizes. The powerful combination of Horizon and SQL Server will positively serve the library industry, strengthening libraries' relevance through advanced technologies.”

“From a SQL Server perspective, Microsoft is excited to establish an alliance with Dynix in the library space,” said Brenda Fisher, group product manager for SQL Server at Microsoft. “As a collaborator, Dynix is the first LMS vendor that approached us about certifying its application on SQL Server 2000; this shows forward thinking in adopting a high standard, which will ultimately benefit our joint customers.”

As a joint marketing effort with Dynix, Microsoft will be holding two on-site training sessions titled “Library Directors' View of Emerging Technology.” These seminars, which will be held in Denver on July 10 and Salt Lake City on July 15, will provide a high-level overview of the technologies that will have the biggest impact on the library community.
