Academic wins strengthen Sirsi's position nationwide

Press Release: SIRSI Corporation [June 09, 2003]

Huntsville, Alabama — June 9, 2003 — Sirsi Corporation, the leader in new-name sales of technology for libraries around the world*, today announced that the Unicorn® Library Management System, Sirsi's iLink e-Library solution, and Sirsi's API tools have been chosen by several academic institutions, including Davidson College (NC), Beloit College (WI), Houston Baptist University (TX), Adrian College (MI), Rhodes College (TN), Washtenaw Community College (MI), and the South Carolina Information and Library Services Consortium (SCILS). SCILS includes 10 libraries: Greenville Technical College, Horry-Georgetown Technical College, Northeastern Technical College, Spartanburg Technical College, Technical College of the Lowcountry, Williamsburg Technical College, York Technical College, Orangeburg Calhoun Technical College, Tri-County Technical College, and Central Carolina Technical College.

"After a rigorous competitive process, we found Sirsi to be the best vendor for our needs. We were impressed by Sirsi's iLink e-Library solution for our end-users," said Peggy Smith, chair of SCILS. With iLink, researchers become "e-searchers" who are connected to research-oriented resources with power and efficiency. Information from virtually any online source can be managed and shared by librarians and faculty, making useful knowledge available to users.

"Additionally, Sirsi's API tools will be useful in creating the reports we need to best serve our academic community," said Smith. Sirsi's Unicorn Application Programming Interface, or API, enables staff to retrieve and update all data, either in-batch or real-time. The ability to move data in and out of the Sirsi system with API tools is invaluable in tailoring the system to a library's specific needs. For example, API tools are used to write interfaces with accounts payable, the bursar files for library fines, and to load patron data from central academic files.

"We are proud to be the system of choice for an ever-increasing range of academic institutions, each of which has a diverse and demanding set of requirements," said Andrew Morrice, Sirsi's vice president of sales & marketing and international operations.
