INWOOD, WV— March 31, 2003 – Dallas Independent School District (ISD) in Texas will upgrade from a Dynix system to SchoolLibrary.Solution, TLC's Oracle-based centralized automation system for school districts.
Dallas ISD is the twelfth largest school district in the nation. Students in 67 of the district's schools recently achieved high marks on state-mandated testing, as ranked by the Texas Education Agency. The district has a collection of 2.4 million items, which its 185,000 students and staff will access via the SchoolLibrary.Solution catalog from any of the 45,000 computers on the district's network.
Reasons Dallas ISD chose SchoolLibrary.Solution include its appeal to users and its interaction with the Internet, Dallas ISD Director Linda Garrett said. “In order to meet the current needs of our patrons, we needed to upgrade to a graphical system that was more appealing to our patrons and allowed better interaction with the Internet and other libraries,” she explained. “Our district recently selected Oracle as a database standard and the new library automation system had to be Oracle compliant.”
TLC's understanding of the needs of urban school districts was also important, Ms. Garrett said. “With 218 schools in the district and another 20 under construction, we need a flexible and sophisticated library automation system, backed by a company that understands the needs of an urban school district. TLC has the staff and resources to manage our implementation and training needs. One of the strongest features of the system is its design focus on school libraries; it does not appear as a revised system for public or academic libraries,” she said.
