Blacksburg, VA - The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMMS) in Baltimore, MD has purchased Virtua ILS -Integrated Library Systems with a 5-user license under the VTLS Collection Hosting Services. CMMS also contracted VTLS' imaging services to digitize Department of Health publications and provide these documents on microfiche and as PDF files. These documents will be linked from Marc records in Virtua and will be accessible to the public once the cataloguing is complete.
Operated from VTLS offices, the collection hosting service relies on the Internet to deliver the software applications, eliminating the need for local servers at customer sites and the expense involved in maintaining them. Like CMMS, customers may also contract with VTLS to host their image collections allowing a small library or historical society to make their unique collection available publicly without the costs associated with a full-fledged system implementation.
Currently, CMMS joins the ranks of eight other VTLS hosted databases, including four Virtua ILS accounts and four imaging accounts. "VTLS' collection hosting solution is also an excellent opportunity for libraries, museums, historical societies and archives looking for a way to showcase their digital collections without the stress of managing a system in-house," said Dr. Vinod Chachra, President of VTLS Inc. "We hope to encourage imaging service customers to use our software to distribute their images while still meeting the needs of small libraries looking for big system capabilities."
