epixtech appointments combine library expertise, leadership in product management and excellence in communication

Abstract: epixtech announced the appointment of three new marketing directors. Steve Nielsen, director of market management; Scott Nelson is the company''s new senior director of product management, and Chris Ross will serve as senior director of marketing communications.

PROVO, Utah ¯ October 8, 2002 ¯ epixtech announced today the appointment of three new marketing directors. Steve Nielsen, director of market management, has worked with libraries since 1985 and is a former customer service manager and director of development and product management for Ameritech Library Services, the forerunner of epixtech. Scott Nelson is the company's new senior director of product management, and Chris Ross will serve as senior director of marketing communications.

“These appointments will enhance our leadership as a global provider of library automation solutions,” said Mark Calkins, senior vice president of global marketing. “We are putting exceptional people in all the right places to insure we provide the best products and services possible for our customers.”

Nielsen arrives at epixtech having served as vice president of development and technical services for My Community, a Web site content management company providing solutions for business, libraries, schools, and local governments. In addition to seven years spent in the library automation industry, he has worked as an associate library director, library fiscal officer, and library accountant.

Nielsen has published numerous articles relating to library technology issues and for three years co-wrote a biweekly column on computer networks in Computers in Libraries magazine. He has presented to library associations in the United States and abroad to discuss his research and understanding of such issues as library networking and automation, client/server computing, and information services. He received a master's degree in social science and a bachelor's degree in accounting, both from the Utah State University.

“For almost 20 years, Steve has been a technological innovator and thought leader among librarians,” Calkins said. “His work has provided a significant service to the progress of libraries, and we are thrilled to have him back at epixtech. The depth and breadth of his knowledge will help us meet the specific needs of all libraries.”

Scott Nelson has more than 15 years' experience as a marketing executive and will oversee product direction and design for epixtech. Most recently, Nelson served as vice president of marketing for Cerberian, where he led marketing communications and product management. Previously, as vice president of product management for, he grew site traffic by 350 percent in five months and increased subscription run-rates by 200 percent in six months. He has also served in executive marketing positions at other high-technology companies, including Novell/WordPerfect Corporation. Nelson completed bachelor's degrees in both marketing and finance at Brigham Young University and will receive a master's degree in business administration from Colorado State University in 2003.

“Scott comes to epixtech with tremendous results-based experience as a marketing executive,” said Calkins. “Always working to improve product satisfaction for end-users, he has achieved fantastic results in several high-technology companies and will improve the way epixtech products are developed and delivered to better meet the needs of our customers around the world.”

Chris Ross has 15 years' experience in marketing management and will direct epixtech's communication with markets and customers. As director of lead generation at Raindance Communications, he increased lead volume by 50 percent and close rates by 100 percent. Previously, he directed marketing efforts at Rhythms Netconnections, relaunching the company Intranet and increasing traffic to the company's Web site by 300 percent. He has also led the development and launch of interactive marketing initiatives at U S West and Sprint Broadband. Throughout his experience, he has created marketing partnerships with companies such as Cisco, 3Com, Dell, and Hewlett-Packard. Ross holds a bachelor's degree in advertising and marketing from the University of Phoenix.
