KualiCo formed as a Professional Open Source company

The Strategy Sessions both converged on the need for a Professional Open Source company to move Kuali forward. On August 22, we simultaneously announced to all partners and members our intent to add a Professional Open Source company to the Kuali ecosystem.

Kuali OLE System Partners receive $882,000 grant from Andrew W. Mellon Foundation

Indiana University, on behalf of Kuali OLE System Partners, has received an $882,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for the Kuali Open Library Environment, an open-source, community-based library software system created by a partnership of some of the nation’s leading university libraries.

EBSCO Information Services joins Kuali Foundation as a commercial affiliate

The Kuali Foundation welcomed EBSCO Information Services as one of its newest Kuali Commercial Affiliates within the Kuali community. EBSCO will provide expertise in seamlessly integrating discovery services with the Kuali OLE (Open Library Environment) for enhanced access to both print and digital library collections.

Kuali OLE project awarded $750,000 from Andrew W. Mellon Foundation

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has awarded the Kuali OLE project an additional $750,000 to support a third year of development of a new-generation library services platform available as open source software, designed for research libraries. This additional phase will include enhancements including accommodating multisite implementations, support for patron self-service, and interoperability with high-density storage facilities. Indiana University continues as the lead institution for the partnership which also includes Duke University, University of Chicago, University of Maryland, North Carolina State University, University of Florida, Lehigh University, Villanova University, University of Michigan, and the University of Pennsylvania. HTC Global has been engaged as a commercial affiliate, contracted to perform much of the technical work following an agile software development process. It will continue in this role in this additional phase of the project.

HTC Global Services as the development partner for the Kuali OLE

Kuali Foundation announces the selection of HTC Global Services as the development partner for the Kuali Open Library Environment (OLE) project. The Kuali OLE (pronounced oh-LAY) project is a partnership of nine top research libraries and consortia to develop a community-source library management system. The system will be freely distributed under the Educational Community license and supported in part by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Its design is based on a thoroughly re-examined model of library operations, and its technical design uses a service-oriented architecture (SOA) to better enable connectivity with many other academic and administrative systems.

Indiana University awarded $2.38 million grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to develop library software

A $2.38 million grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to Indiana University will be used to develop software created specifically for the management of print and electronic collections for academic and research libraries around the world. IU will lead the Kuali Open Library Environment (OLE) project, a partnership of research libraries dedicated to managing increasingly digital resources and collections. Together, these libraries will develop "community source" software that will be made available to libraries worldwide.

Mellon foundation provides $475,700 for Reconceptualizing Technology for Modern Library Workflows - OLE

A $475,700 grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to the Duke University Libraries will lead to the design of a next-generation, open-source library system that is flexible, customizable and nimble enough to meet the changing and complex needs of 21st-century libraries and library users. The goal of the Open Library Environment (OLE) Project is to develop a design document for library automation technology that fits modern library workflows, is built on Service Oriented Architecture, and offers an alternative to commercial Integrated Library System products.
