Abstract: ONLINE TREASURES column focuses on Internet resources for technology planning, which are more reliable than a crystal ball. Discusses the National Center for Technology Planning, an organization that serves as a clearinghouse for information on technology planning. Says that the emphasis is on planning for schools, but the materials can be useful for libraries. Adds that another Web site covering the basics of technology planning is from Microsoft Corp. and includes a detailed guide to planning, implementing, and evaluating, and an article about understanding the E-rate that helps applicants learn how to prepare and apply for the funds. Mentions a Web document prepared by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, along with others specifically designed for library technology planning. Notes that technology planning requires clear thinking and careful attention to the process of planning. Includes two screen displays and a sidebar.
