McHenry, ILLINOIS --May 6, 1994- Follett Software Company announces its release of two additional CD-ROM options to its family of USMARC databases. With Alliance Plus software, users can now access the Alliance Vintage CD-ROM or Alliance A/V ACCESS CD-ROM, in addition to the original Alliance Plus USMARC CD-ROM. Together, the databases provide access to more than 1.25 million book, serial and audiovisual records. The Alliance Plus database options work with either Alliance Plus or CardMaster Plus software application packages.
Alliance Plus application software and CD-ROM databases are designed for use with Follett's Circulation Plus library management software and Catalog Plus on-line catalog software for the purposes of retrospective conversion, record enhancement, data entry and collection and curriculum development.
The most recent addition to the Alliance Plus family of USMARC databases, Alliance A/V ACCESS is a collection of 400,000 professionally cataloged audiovisual materials for use in original cataloging of audiovisual materials. Joint cataloging by Professional Media Service Cow., the leading supplier of audiovisual materials in America, and Follett Software Company provides a single source for retrieving MARC records for library audiovisual collections. The Alliance A/V ACCESS disc encompasses multiple types of media, including projected graphics, non-projected graphics, realia, musical sound recordings, non-musical sound recordings, printed music kits and computer files. Annual subscriptions with quarterly update discs are currently available for purchase to all Alliance Plus software users.
Provided free of charge to all Alliance Plus database subscribers, Alliance Vintage is a single-issue disc containing more than 500,000 pre-1968 records for use in cataloging older collections. The disc contains difficult-to-find records often requested by Follett customers, including print records and audiovisual records including: sound recordings, projected graphics, monographs, printed music, kits and other material types.
The original Alliance Plus CD-ROM is a multipurpose database designed for use as an automated retrospective conversion tool as well as an original cataloging tool. Based on the Library of Congress MARC database, the Alliance Plus CD-ROM contains more than 500,000 unique book and serial records spanning years 1901 to present. Updated quarterly, many Alliance Plus records have been enhanced with reading and interest level information for use in classroom curriculum planning or for individual patron needs.
The Unison Alliance Plus application software requires the installation of the Unison version of Circulation Plus and/or Catalog Plus. Additional operating system requirements include Microsoft CD-ROM extensions v2.20 or higher and MS-DOS v5.0 or higher. Minimal hardware requirements include 80386-25 MHz or better MS-DOS compatible computer, one internal or external ISO 9660 format compatible CD-ROM drive (external preferred for resource sharing purposes) with card and cable, and one floppy disk drive. Hardware must have 512K free RAM after running Microsoft CD-ROM Extensions.
