POMONA, Calif., January 22, 1996 -- Auto-Graphics Inc., a leading supplier of information and database resource sharing systems, today announced that it will provide its Impact/ONLINEsystem to more than 480 participating libraries in the Eastern New Jersey Regional Library Cooperative, called INFOLINK. Impact/ONLINEallows libraries to access information via the Internet.

INFOLINK's union database, holds more than 1.2 million unique titles and 4.1 million holdings, including books, journals, reports, audio cassettes and video tapes from the participating libraries. Prior to Impact/ONLINE, Auto-Graphics supplied INFOLINK with a CD-ROM version of the database which is active at 75 sites in the region. Those sites retaining their CD-ROM systems will be provided with a gateway to Interlibrary Loans among the participatingImpact/ONLINE libraries.

"We selected Auto-Graphics Impact database sharing system because it provides the software capabilities we needed, such as Interlibrary Loan Requests as well as being the only successful file server based system available, " said Gail Rosenberg, executive director of INFOLINK. " INFOLINK envisions a future where the universe of ideas and information flows freely to every person through every library. "

Unlike other central processor-based library automation software, Auto-Graphics designed its software to be client/server-based. By designing the software for the client/server environment, Auto-Graphics enables its customers to save money, and have a faster, more reliable system.

Additionally, Auto-Graphics is providing INFOLINK with the expertise to develop an Internet server which is being located at INFOLINK's executive offices. This new server will host e-mail for the staffs of participating libraries, and locally developed and maintained applications such as community information and individual Web Homepages for libraries. Impact/ONLINE will help to control costs by allowing the network administrator at INFOLINK to manage the server.

To ensure a rapid transition, Auto-Graphics is providing hands-on training to designated INFOLINK personnel. These trainers then will assume the responsibility of training the other librarians and users.

Impact/ONLINE Provides Feature Rich Resource Sharing System

The Impact/ONLINE resource sharing system offers users access to information available in all of the participating libraries in the region as well as information on the Internet. It includes user-friendly functions such as author, title, subject, keyword Boolean and number searches. Patron initiation and tracking of an Interlibrary Loan Request (ILL request) is also supported.

Users simply search for the desired information and order the materials to be delivered to their local library. Impact/ONLINEwill allow the user to search the regional catalog and other informational databases.
