November 6, 2006. Infor announced today that the Kingston Frontenac Public Library, located in the City of Kingston, Ontario, Canada, has selected Infor's Vubis Smart library automation system. Vubis Smart will enable the Kingston Frontenac Public Library to offer its patrons a wide array of personalized services and to further extend the Library's virtual service offerings.
"The Kingston Frontenac Public Library has been at the forefront of providing its patrons with new and exciting services that reflect the latest in technological innovation," said Ellen Isaacson, North American General Manager, Infor Library Solutions. "Since 2004, the Kingston Frontenac Public Library has been using Vubis Smart to digitize and showcase the city's historic local newspaper collection. Seeing the system's inherent flexibility and scalability at work was fundamental to the Library's decision to adopt Vubis Smart as its comprehensive integrated library system. We are excited about growing our relationship with the Library and look forward to enabling the Library's vision of promoting its services through technological excellence."
The Kingston Frontenac Public Library includes 17 branches throughout Frontenac County. The Library circulates approximately 1.2 million materials per year and provides a range of personalized services that draw on both traditional and digital formats. Patrons may connect with the Library through a virtual reference service. A public blog called "Small Talk" connects patrons to book chats, news about the library, and provides links to interesting world or local events. In 2005, the Library completed the digitization of local newspapers from 1810 to 1848; with the completion of the Digital Kingston project, users can search for newspaper articles and view a copy of the requested document online (see: http://www.digitalkingston.ca/kfplvs-app/Vubis.csp).
"KFPL is very excited about implementing Vubis Smart for its library operations," said Lester Webb, Systems and Technical Services Manager, Kingston Frontenac Public Library. "The feature rich Vubis Smart Web OPAC and products like V-link, Infor's OpenURL Resolver, are critical to KFPL's "patron first" initiatives. We have watched with great interest as the Vubis Smart back office has evolved into a first rate system and look forward to a continued partnership with Infor in offering high quality and innovative services to our patrons."
Vubis Smart is a comprehensive information management system that enables libraries, archives and museums to organize and present data from any source and in any format. The system incorporates convenient workflows and easy-to-use administrative tools. Staff can define multiple formats, databases, indexes, search methods and more. Distinctive rules and parameters may be defined to meet the requirements of individual branches and locations. Users can simultaneously search multiple databases, link to subscription resources and customize the Web OPAC for appearance, language and search results. Unique Web OPAC features include ‘Fuzzy Logic', ‘Associative Searching', Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) and customized news feeds (RSS).
